A 77-year-old Indiana man has been charged with three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder after allegedly shooting and killing his wife, stepson, and bedridden mother-in-law, and wounding another stepson in a shocking incident that unfolded during a domestic dispute over property ownership.
The shootings took place inside the family home during the evening hours. According to investigators, the suspect made a call to emergency services, confessing that he had shot four members of his household. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they found his wife deceased in the kitchen and discovered the bodies of his adult stepson and elderly mother-in-law in a nearby den. The surviving stepson, who sustained gunshot wounds to the neck and chest, was transported to a hospital and is expected to recover.
Authorities reported that a child was present at the time of the shootings but managed to escape physical harm by hiding upstairs with two other individuals. A handgun and multiple spent shell casings were found inside the residence, suggesting a sudden eruption of violence.
In statements made during police interviews, the man claimed that the violence stemmed from an argument with his wife after she informed him she had transferred ownership of their home. He described the attack as impulsive, explaining that he had just returned indoors with a firearm after shooting a snake outside. According to his account, a confrontation escalated into a deadly rampage.
The man expressed deep remorse, admitting guilt and stating he was “not proud” of what he had done. He remains in custody without bond as the legal process continues.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident and the family dynamics that may have contributed to the tragedy.
