Capitol Police Chief Leaves with a Terrifying Warning About Trump and January 6th!

U.S. Capitol Police Chief Thomas Manger is set to retire this Friday, concluding a tenure marked by significant reforms following the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. Appointed in July 2021, Manger focused on rebuilding the department’s diminished staff, enhancing recruitment, and strengthening intelligence operations to address vulnerabilities exposed during the attack.

Reflecting on his early challenges, Manger noted the department’s loss of confidence in prior leadership and the urgent need to rectify failures in intelligence, communication, equipment, training, and leadership. Under his guidance, the department transitioned from merely consuming intelligence to actively gathering it, establishing itself as a significant player in the intelligence community.

Manger has requested nearly $1 billion in funding for 2026, citing a surge in threats against congressional members, which exceeded 9,400 in 2024. He emphasized the role of social media and the internet in facilitating these threats, underscoring the department’s responsibility to investigate them.

Critically, Manger opposed pardons issued by President Trump to individuals convicted or charged in connection with the Capitol riot, describing such actions as sending a chilling message to law enforcement. He also condemned ongoing conspiracy theories about the events of January 6, affirming the firsthand experiences of his officers during the assault.

As the Capitol Police Board prepares to select a new chief, Manger leaves behind a department that has undergone significant transformation under his leadership.
