Rapper 50 Cent has expressed his concerns after President Donald Trump indicated he would consider a pardon for his longtime rival, Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is currently facing serious federal charges.
Trump’s comments came just a day after he granted a presidential pardon to Todd and Julie Chrisley. When questioned by Fox News reporter Peter Doocy about his past friendship with Diddy and the possibility of a pardon, Trump stated he would consider it “if I think somebody was mistreated.”
50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, took to social media to voice his opposition to a potential pardon for Diddy. He referenced their long-standing feud and Diddy’s past negative remarks about Trump. On Friday, Trump had suggested he might consider a pardon for Diddy, emphasizing it wasn’t a “popularity contest” and he would examine the facts if asked.
Sean “Diddy” Combs was indicted on September 17 on charges including racketeering conspiracy (RICO), sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, and transportation to engage in prostitution. If convicted, he could face a minimum of 15 years in prison or a life sentence. Diddy has maintained his innocence throughout the ongoing legal proceedings, which have included testimony from witnesses alleging rape, sexual assault, severe physical abuse, forced labor, and drug trafficking.
President Trump mentioned that no one has yet formally requested a pardon for Diddy, but acknowledged that “people are thinking about it” and that some have been “very close to asking.” He stated he would first “look at what’s happening,” noting the extensive media coverage. Trump recalled a past friendly relationship with Diddy, which he believes soured after he entered politics, leading to “little bit nasty statements in the paper all of a sudden.” He emphasized that as president, he prioritizes doing what’s right for the country, not personal popularity, and would consider a pardon if he believed someone was mistreated, regardless of their personal feelings towards him.
50 Cent responded on social media, vowing to reach out to President Trump to convey his feelings about Diddy. He later shared a screenshot of an article titled “50 Cent Plans to Nuke Diddy’s Chances at a Pardon,” clarifying that he simply intended to ensure Trump was aware of Diddy’s negative opinions. 50 Cent also shared videos of Diddy speaking against Trump, implying this would negatively impact any chances of a pardon.
The feud between 50 Cent and Diddy spans many years and includes accusations and diss tracks. 50 Cent has previously claimed to have ghostwritten for Diddy and has publicly questioned his involvement in the 1997 murder of Notorious B.I.G. Their relationship has been marked by mutual animosity and occasional public exchanges. When Diddy’s properties were recently raided as part of the federal investigation, 50 Cent shared commentary on social media, suggesting a strong case was being built against Diddy. He also reacted strongly to the release of a video showing Diddy assaulting Cassie Ventura in 2016, highlighting Diddy’s initial denial and the gravity of the actions depicted.
50 Cent is currently producing a docuseries with Netflix about Diddy’s downfall, aiming to provide a comprehensive account of the situation.
